Expect Delays Along State Route 20 On Friday

Highway Sign Fanatic

Drivers can expect 15 minute delays along State route 20 east of Marysville Friday afternoon, as two years of construction work gets underway in earnest.

Loud explosions will ring out as crews begin blasting work in the vicinity of Smartsville, part of a $28.5 million plan to eliminate treacherous curves, widen shoulders and improve drainage between McGanney Lane and Mooney Flat Road.

Detonations will continue through the fall, with intermittent delays of up to an hour. Major blasting is scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 10 and 11 in the morning.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time or take an alternate route. Area residents can expect to hear loud explosions.

Other major work is planned between Loma Rica Road Nevada County line.
