Prayer Vigil Held In Anderson For Carr Fire Victims

Carr Fire survivors and first responders were honored Wednesday night at the Sikh Center in Anderson.

The evening was full of food, music, and Sikh, Christian, and Native American prayers for those who lost homes and for those who risked their lives saving others. Coordinator Amarjit Singh said it’s a common practice for those who share his faith to help the general community in times of crisis.

“It’s worldwide. And there is another section in the Sikh community known as council aid. They are helping people even in the war-torn zones like Afghanistan and Syria,” Singh said. “They’ll take food, blankets and whatever is needed by the local community. It’s a thank you part of the Sikh practice”.

Anderson Mayor Norma Comnick said even though her city didn’t see any damage from the Carr Fire, she appreciates the Sikh Center reaching out to their neighbors in Shasta County.

“They’re always here to help,” Comnick said. “They are very much supportive of Anderson. It’s our city and they do support us very well and I don’t think we could ask for much more than that.”

Following the service, items like food, blankets and toiletries were given to those who were in need.
