In his book of 12 essays, retired Princeton history professor and Pulitzer winning author James McPherson discusses why the Civil War started, the role that California played, whether it was a just war, and what are its most important legacies.  

Nancy Wiegman has a master's degree in French linguistics from Indiana University and taught yoga and foreign languages at CSU Fresno and the College of Charleston before moving to Chico in 1990.
