Fire investigators suspect arson was the cause of a vegetation fire that broke out Tuesday night in Redding.
Four fire engines responded just before midnight to the 50-foot-wide fire in a vacant field near the Salvation Army offices, also adjacent to a vacant lumber yard. Crews say there was no immediate threat to either property.
Witnesses told investigators that a man threw a lit incendiary device into the air as he was walking through the field. The device has been retrieved as evidence.
