Our Redding transmitter is offline due to an internet outage at our Shasta Bally site. This outage also impacts our Burney and Dunsmuir translators. We are working with our provider to find a solution. We appreciate your patience during this outage.

A Letter From NSPR's General Manager

To NSPR listeners:

“What’s true of all the evils in the world is true of plague as well. It helps men to rise above themselves.” -- Albert Camus

We’re living in uncertain and unprecedented times, and we don’t know how long it will last. We do know that NSPR will be here to report it to the best of our ability. Like all other facets of life, our station has been affected in multiple ways, from programming and membership, to engineering and personnel.

Weeknight’s from 6:30 to 7 p.m., the NSPR News Team will speak with health workers, political leaders and community members, to bring you vital information on the current state of the outbreak, the North State’s response, and keeping you and your family as safe possible.

NSPR now airs Insight with Beth Ruyak from CapRadio in Sacramento. The show will be dedicating its 9 to 10 a.m. timeslot to health information about the coronavirus. To make room, NSPR will be preempting Fresh Air, however the encore of Fresh Air with Terry Gross will be available from 7 to 8 p.m.

We’re sending as many workers home to self-isolate as possible. As a result, you’ll hear a classical music programming service instead of Mike Fishkin. You’ll hear fewer underwriting announcements because we’ve sent home our announcers. Other changes are possible as programming, resources and personnel change.

Our spring membership drive has been postponed to devote all our resources to covering the effects of this health crisis on the North State. We still need your support, and you can make a pledge online anytime at mynspr.org. Also on our website is a coronavirus information page, which includes local, state and federal resources as well as news stories about the coronavirus crisis.

Importantly, we want to hear from you. On our website you can submit your question about this crisis and we’ll try to answer them during the course of all of our news reporting.

This will be a months-long disruption to the daily lives and routines of everyone who listens to NSPR. It’s our job to bring you accurate, timely, vetted information. We take that responsibility seriously, and will report this story as long as we are able.

Please stay safe, hunker down, support each other and listen to NSPR.

Phil Wilke
