Just on the other side of Bidwell Park is a little known gem of a natural area: the 3,950 acre BCCER, open to the public. In this program for all abilities, we will see the effects of cutting edge woodland and grassland restoration efforts on the Reserve, and discuss ongoing research. We will travel 1000 ft. down into the canyon to view the Chico formation, an ancient seabed studded with fossils. Hikers will enjoy a 4-wheel drive van shuttle back up the canyon. We will meet at 9AM and caravan/carpool to the Reserve. Bring sturdy hiking shoes with lugged soles (if hiking), long-pants (poison oak and burs abound), food and water, and consider mosquito repellent, a hat, and sun-screen.
