High Heat Poses Health Dangers

With the extreme heat we’ve had the last few days public health departments across the North State are urging people to remain cool, hydrated, and informed. The Butte County Department of Public Health says on average 575 people die from heat-related illnesses each year across the country. Symptoms may include confusion, heavy sweating, weakness, headache, cramps or nausea. If you experience these symptoms, you are urged to get to a shaded area immediately, drink some water, and apply cool compresses.

In order to avoid heat complications you should not exercise during the hottest part of the day, stay indoors if possible, and stay hydrated. Of course you should never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. It can be deadly.
