Authorities announced a $10,000 reward for information resulting in the arrest and conviction in an unsolved murder that occurred four years ago.
The reward is being offered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is also assisting with the case.
The victim, 52-year-old Jeronimo Valladares-Mata of Corning, was shot a single time in the head while sitting inside his pickup truck at a mobile home park on the 3500 block of the Esplanade in Chico on April 6, 2013. He died six days later.
Jeronimo’s brother, Audelino Valladares-Mata, who also worked doing small construction and repair jobs, was also shot and killed, also while at a mobile home park — this one on the 100 block of Henshaw in Chico seven years earlier, on August 1, 2007.
Michael O’Brien is chief of the Chico police.
“They both were killed in broad daylight, both were killed in mobile home parks, both were killed with firearms,” he said. “We know that.”
O’Brien said beyond that, police have determined few other details. O’Brien described the brothers as innocent, law-abiding men. O’Brien said it is unclear if the homicides are related. Anyone with any information related to either victim, are asked to call 897-5899 or submit a tip to tips.fbi.gov.
