North State Hospitals Begin COVID-19 Inoculations

Hospitals in Butte and Shasta counties began inoculating frontline medical workers against COVID-19 this week.

Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills says it administered its first vaccines Wednesday.

Mercy Medical Center and Shasta Regional Medical Center were expected to begin their administrations Thursday.

Dr. Karen Ramstrom, Shasta County’s health officer said she recently listened to disease experts involved in the vaccine review process.

“These vaccine experts and infectious disease experts from throughout the nation were very confident in the efficacy and safety of this vaccine. And all felt that they would be comfortable getting it themselves.” Ramstrom said.

In Butte County, Enloe Medical Center vaccinated its first health care workers Thursday.  At this time, vaccines are only available to some frontline medical workers.
