Covered California is urging residents without health insurance in the state to sign up by the end of the year.

Enrollment remains open for another month, but for coverage to start in January participants need to sign up by Dec. 31. The final enrollment date is Jan. 31 with coverage starting in February.

Data from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research shows that about 125,000 uninsured people live in and around the North State. Covered California reports most of these people can qualify for financial assistance or are eligible for Medi-Cal coverage.

Covered California is a health care marketplace that operates through the Affordable Care Act. The service says nearly two million people are enrolled for health insurance next year.

During its first enrollment deadline for 2025, Covered California reported a 3% increase in sign ups from last year and a 4% increase in plan renewals.
