Authorities are still trying to determine the origin of highly potent street drugs that left one dead and 17 others hospitalized in two recent incidents.

Butte County sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine exactly what left three thrill seekers in desperate need of medical care and an infant likely headed to foster care. Monday’s incident at Gold Country Casino followed a mass overdose Saturday morning in Chico that left one dead and 14 needing medical care.

The deceased was identified as Aris Turner.

It is unclear whether there is any connection between the two incidents, where the drugs were obtained or what exactly was in them. Authorities are trying to determine if the drugs in either incident were laced with fentanyl, an extremely potent narcotic. Authorities are concerned that more may be on the streets.

Monday’s incident resulted the arrests of a man and a woman.

A second man was treated and released. A five month old, the child of the arrestees, was conveyed to Child Protective Services, according to the sheriff’s office.
