The body of a female transient was found near Chico State’s administration building, Kendall Hall early Tuesday, authorities said.
Chico State police are handling the investigation. Calls were referred to Chico State spokesman Sean Murphy. Murphy said the deceased was not a student or university employee. Murphy said the body was found at 4:40 a.m. and that it was clear life saving measures would not have changed the outcome.
Murphy said he could not divulge the name or age of the deceased or any information regarding how the death might have occurred.
A follow up call to University Police Chief John Reid was not returned.
An official email sent to university accounts stated “a suspect is in custody and there is no threat to campus. Both the victim and suspect in today’s incident were experiencing homelessness and were known to university police.”
