Butte And Shasta Board Of Supervisors To Tackle Camp Fire Issues

Lengthy agendas await lawmakers in both Butte and Shasta Counties where the Board of Supervisors in each counties are scheduled to convene this morning.

Unsurprisingly, there’s much about fire on this morning’s agenda. In Butte County officials will consider, and are likely to approve measures suspending parts of the county’s zoning code — an effort to aid those made homeless by the Camp Fire.

The ordinance would cover temporary structures and ease restrictions on where and how long, one could live in a parked trailer. If enacted as written, the suspensions would continue through December 31st 2020.

Additionally, officials will consider a measure prohibiting the movement or removal of fire debris until an official inspection for hazardous and toxic waste has happened.

Officials will also consider waiving fees for vital records, property documents, library cards and appraisal records. Separately, the board will consider forgiving remaining balances left on home loans extended to 2008 fire victims whose homes burned down during the camp fire. The loans were extended through a federal program.

The board will also consider an ordinance that would give county employees their regular salaries for the period from Nov 12th through Nov 30th  when county offices were shut due to the Camp Fire and will consider consultancy contracts to manage fire debris taken to the county dump.

Supervisors are also expected to review proposed changes to the pension contributions made by sheriff’s deputies.

A proposal regulating short term and vacation rentals is scheduled to return for further debate, but officials are expected to postpone that hearing to a later date.

In Shasta County, officials are set to accept as certified the official election results, extend a $100,000 contract to St Helena Hospital for psychiatric hospitalizations, accept $300,000 state grant to promote safer driving and hear an update on a major construction project to significantly increase capacity at the Shasta County Jail.

The board will also receive a report on reconstruction and repair work in the wake of the Carr and Delta Fires and hold a public hearing that will likely result in an increase in water rates for customers of the Crag View water district.

Both the Butte and Shasta County boards of supervisors scheduled to be meet in their respective chambers in Oroville and Redding. Both meetings are scheduled to get underway this morning at 9.
