The US Census Bureau is going on a North State hiring binge, gearing up for the once a decade count.
Well over a thousand jobs are available from the US Census locally, according to Marna Davis, a spokesperson for the 2020 census.
“It’s a great job for students, the hours are flexible, it’s a great job for someone who has a full time job and just wants to make some extra money." Davis explained. "Pay starts at $18/hr, it’s a great opportunity to make some extra money while helping your community.”
Davis said Chico will be the hub for the count throughout northeastern California. Required under the US Constitution, information gathered by the census helps guide federal spending.
“A complete census count numbers are responsible for how hundreds of billions of dollars every year are allocated to communities for critical services.” Davis said.
Census enumerators follow up with those that decline to return a mailed census survey and can’t be reached by telephone or email. The agency offers training and mileage reimbursement. Davis said hours are flexible, most positions will last about eight weeks.
