Demonstrators Urge Impeachment

Marc Albert

Heeding a nationwide call for demonstrations on what could be the eve of a full house impeachment vote, about 200 people briefly rallied in Chico City Plaza yesterday evening.

There weren’t a whole lot of creative chants or drama for that matter, even when one of about 20 counter protesters tried goading the assembled with a Trump banner.

Amid the gathering dusk, demonstrators said they came to stand together, be noticed and help apply pressure on Washington.

For Cheryl Hawkins of Stirling City, the issue is clear.

“You can’t use the office of president for personal gain, and that’s what he did.” Hawkins said.

Beyond arguments of extortion, bribery and international aid, Elizabeth Graham of Chico said the president is burying the truth.

“When people are called to testify in front of Congress, you should allow people to go and testify in front of Congress. If you don’t, that is obstruction of Congress and it’s against the law. Period.” Graham said.

Nancy Good, also of Chico said she’d identified disturbing issues with President Trump’s behavior.

“He’s a narcissistic psychopath.” Good said.

For some, like Katherine Harper, the drama needs to end post haste.

“I want to see Trump impeached as quickly as possible. I want him out of office.” Harper said.

Geri Todd of Chico said she’s just run out of patience.

“He’s done so many criminal activities that we need to remove him.” Todd said.

Asked she thought he would be?

“It’s hard to know, but I think the fact that people are coming out all over the country will have an impact.” she said.

Rallies were also held elsewhere in the region, including in Redding, Williams and Colusa.
