Nearly half of Butte County residents aged 65 years or older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Lisa Almaguer, communications manager at Butte County Public Health, said Thursday that amounts to about 19,800 people, or 49 percent.

It’s a critical cohort. The number of COVID-19 deaths recorded by the county is 160. One hundred forty-four of those deaths are in the 65 and older group.

“We have not finished the 65 and older group yet,” Almaguer said. “And are in the planning phases for the agriculture and food sectors. So, more to come on this hopefully next week.”

Overall, it’s estimated 16 percent of Butte County’s population has received at least one vaccine dose. That amounts to about 35,500 residents.
