Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that residents 65 years or older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. But some county officials in the North State are saying they need more time to roll the vaccine out to that age group.

Lisa Almaguer, aspokesperson for Butte County Public Health, said more planning is needed.

“It’ll take some planning and logistics on our end before this can happen,” Almaguer said.  “For now, the current age group for Phase 1b, Tier 1, which is persons 75-plus years of age, is still the priority.”

Almaguer said Thursday vaccines are currently available for the education sector by invitation only. Butte County’s health department Wednesday released a tool to notify registered residents and organizations when COVID-19 vaccines are available for them.

Registration forms are posted on the county’s website. Almaguer urged people to not call public health asking for vaccine appointments.
