In the North State:
Fire fighters have contained the Cooley Fire in Siskiyou County. The fire started Monday evening and has been burning near Cooley Road, five miles north of Montague. It was contained at 180 acres.
In major ongoing California fire news:
On the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada, the Washington Fire is holding steady at about 17,800 acres, or close to 28 square miles. Crews have that one nearly contained, and will continue working for containment in the near future.
