PG&E Testing To Elevate Danger At Lake Britton Through March

Siskiyou County Visitors Bureau

Visitors to Lake Britton or the Pit River downstream of the Lake Britton dam, can expect hazardous conditions as Pacific Gas and Electric Company tests new equipment. The testing, and elevated danger, is scheduled to start Saturday and continue for 10 days.

Water levels on the lake, near Burney Falls State Park, and downstream along the Pit River, may rise and fall suddenly during the testing period, which concludes March 31. The utility said water levels on the lake may rise as much as four feet above normal.

PG&E is testing what the firm calls ‘bladder crest gates.’ They will allow the company, which generates electricity at the facility, to keep water levels in Lake Britton at the highest possible level.
