Local officials are using a fast-approaching deadline to urge Camp Fire survivors to sign more paperwork.
The deadline is two weeks from today. The documents are essentially releases, letting logging of dangerous dead or fire-stricken trees proceed.
“If you are in the camp fire footprint and you have burned trees on your property that may pose a threat to the public right of way you are required to sign up for one of two programs: either the government program by signing a ‘right-of-entry’ form or the private program by submitting an inspection access form.” said Spokeswoman for Butte County Casey Hatcher.
Similar to the just completed debris removal process, the government program gets the job done with no out of pocket costs to property owners, the private option lets owners hire and pay their own contractors.
“We have approximately 1,600 enrollments at this point, so quite a number to go because we have about 13,500 properties that need to enroll in the program by December 20th.” Hatcher said.
Hatcher said anyone eligible for the program should have received a notice in the mail, though issues with record keeping and mail forwarding may have prevented delivery.
