U.K.'s University Of Warwick Announces Plans For Campus In Placer County

One of the United Kingdom’s leading universities has announced long-range plans to establish a presence in Northern California.

The University of Warwick, a private, not-for-profit research institution, said it plans to build and operate a new campus in Placer County just west of Roseville.

University spokesperson Peter Dunn said via email that the campus plans to see students start graduating by 2021. Warwick hopes to grow the campus to 6,000 students by 2031.

Warwick plans to launch undergraduate programs after it first establishes graduate and post-graduate programs. The effort is part of the institution’s plans to build a global presence. Dunn said a degree in global sustainable development is among the programs being considered.

University representatives met with state officials in Sacramento Monday, including State Senator Jim Nielsen, who called the project a momentous occasion. About two-thirds of the property for the proposed campus was donated.
