Host Dave Schlom is joined by Sky and Telescope magazine senior contributing editor Rick Fienberg to preview the big celestial event coming up soon, the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
Fienberg is also the project manager for the American Astronomical Society's Solar Eclipse Task Force. They have applied lessons from the 2017 total solar eclipse to appropriately message the public on how and where to safely view this eclipse, which passes from Texas up through the American heartland and cities like Indianapolis and on into New England.
Along a 115-mile wide path, millions of Americans will get the last chance for decades to view a total eclipse on U.S. soil. As Rick and Dave both like to say, it may not be a once-in-a-lifetime experience (you can travel to other parts of the world to see them) but it is an experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime!
