Butte County officials prepare for power outages, storm damage

The North State is being hit with a powerful storm that's forecast to bring rain, snow, and high winds to the region through Saturday. Officials from Butte County’s Office of Emergency Management say there is particular concern for burn scar areas. They are also preparing for the possibility of widespread power outages.

Marysville set to celebrate 143rd Bok Kai Festival

The 143rd annual Bok Kai Festival will take place in Marysville this weekend. It celebrates the birthday of the Chinese water god, Bok Kai. The festival began in the 1800s when Chinese immigrants settled in the city to mine for gold or work on the railroads and would thank the water god every year for keeping the city safe from flooding.

Unearthing hidden talent at Karaoke Television in Chico

A new karaoke spot — Karaoke Television — recently opened in downtown Chico, and locals and visitors are flocking to pick up a mic and sing their hearts out. Guests can choose from three themed rooms, including an anime room and a horror movie room that features images of Leatherface from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” or Michael Myers from “Halloween.” Read the full story.

Seniors in California now account for the state’s fastest growing homeless population. The trend includes both people who are experiencing homelessness for the first time after age 50 and those who are already homeless and are becoming seniors while still on the streets.
