There have been 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Glenn County as of May 21 and no deaths. 

The small, rural county has moved into phase two of reopening after receiving local variance approval from the state last week.

NSPR’s Marc Albert spoke with Amy Travis, director of the Glenn County Emergency Operations Center, about how the county has been responding to the pandemic. Highlights from their conversation are below. Listen to the full interview at the top of the page.

On May 13, Plumas County received clearance from the state to move further into Stage Two of reopening the local economy. 

The rural county has confirmed only four total cases of COVID-19 and has reported zero deaths connected with the virus.

NSPR’s Marc Albert spoke with Lori Beatley, health education coordinator for Plumas County’s Public Health Agency, about how the county has been responding to the pandemic. Highlights from their conversation are below.

Some 4.6 million Californians have filed unemployment claims since the coronavirus pandemic began in March. 

The number of claims has overwhelmed the state with a growing backlog and longer wait times for help. Unemployment websites have repeatedly crashed and are ill-equipped for the overload.

And for millions of residents laid off amid the crisis, financial support cannot come soon enough.

Today we’ll hear the latest regional and state news and then we’re focusing on how to file for unemployment, getting as many questions as we can answered from employment expert Jennifer Shaw of Shaw Law Group who was interviewed Tuesday by CapRadio's host of Insight, Beth Ruyak.

NSPR’s Dave Schlom, host of Blue Dot, recently spoke with Dr. James Zimring, a professor, blood pathologist and author of “What Science Is and How it Really Works,” about some of these concepts, what they mean and why they’re important when it comes to COVID-19.
