Jul 5, 2016

The body of a Thermalito teen who went missing on the Feather River last week was found this weekend. According to the Chico Enterprise-Record, the boy’s body was found Sunday near a part of the river that receives water from the Afterbay.

The boy was floating down river with friends last Wednesday when water near that area became rough and the group reportedly lost control of their rafts. The others were able to get to shore or were rescued.

Parts of the Feather River will roil with whitewater this weekend, providing thrills for boaters, along with heightened dangers.

Water flows will more than double along eight miles of river for the weekend as part of a 16-year-old agreement between boating enthusiasts, federal and state agencies and Pacific Gas & Electric Company. PG&E operates an extensive network of hydro-electric facilities along the river.

A fishing excursion took a grisly turn Saturday when fishermen along the Feather River stumbled upon human remains near Gridley.

Authorities are attempting to identify the body, and develop a theory on how they died. The remains were described as skeletal.

A quickly reproducing invasive pest is colonizing both the Feather and Yuba Rivers and officials fret the creature could disrupt one of California’s largest fish hatcheries.

The creature, the tiny New Zealand mud snail, has no native predators. Anna Kastner, manager of the Feather River Fish Hatchery, said the snails could force the suspend fish releases into Lake Oroville.

The body of a 19-year-old Magalia resident who had been missing for two weeks has been found in the West Branch of the Feather River.

According to the Paradise Post, Butte County officials said the body of Tristian Lucero was found in the river below Feather River Hospital by search and rescue crews at 11:25 Monday morning.
