Fire Breaks Out At Colusa Energy Plant

A fire broke out Wednesday morning at the world’s largest producer of rice waste energy in Colusa County.

Fire crews got word of flames shooting from Wadham Energy, just south of Williams east of Interstate 5, around 3:30 Wednesday morning, according to Fox-40 TV.

Williams Fire Protection Authority Chief Jeff Gilbert said the fire was put out around 6 a.m. He also said there may have been significant damage to the elevator system.

The cause is under investigation, though Gilbert said it was most likely a mechanical issue.

According to their website, Wadham Energy produces 26.5 Megawatts each year from burning rice chaff.
