A public meeting will be held Thursday night in Orland to help residents with the drought.
The meeting will focus on learning how to connect to the city’s municipal water system. Information about other emergency drought assistance will also be available.
Glenn County has been hit particularly hard this year by the drought. As of Wednesday, 217 well-incident reports were submitted in the county and 151 of those were for households with dry wells.
Jody Samons is the drought coordinator for the North Valley Community Foundation, which recently received a grant to help with short-term solutions for Glenn County residents.
“It’s going to work hand in hand with a grant from the city — that the city of Orland received — to connect those that are around the city limits to city water, and you know, that may have had their well go dry," Samons said. "Even if you didn't have your well go dry, and you're in the, you know, mapped areas where the greatest impact is, you can also connect.”
Residents immediately south and east of Orland are especially encouraged to attend the meeting. That’s where the highest concentration of reported or at-risk wells are located.
The meeting will be held at the Glenn Success Square Conference Center. It’s located at 131 East Walker Street. It gets underway at 6 p.m. and will also be live-streamed on Glenn County’s website.
