Red Bluff Recreation Area Heading For Chopping Block

The U.S. Forest Service is looking to unload its Red Bluff Recreation Area in an effort to reduce costs.

The site encompasses nearly 500 acres of land along the Sacramento River.

The Forest Service, in a statement, said user fees don’t cover maintenance costs.

The site could end up in the hands of another public agency, a non-profit or a private company.

Forest service officials are preparing to issue a request for proposals from potential bidders, which will likely include introducing day use fees for visitors.

Public input can be emailed to comments-pacificsouthwest-mendocino@fs.fed.us
