Shasta College, College Of Siskiyous Receive State Education Department Grants

A couple of North State community colleges will receive grants from the California Department of Education to help pay for equipment and fund programs in health and public service.

According to the Redding Record Searchlight, Shasta College will receive $5.5 million. The paper says the money will go toward health management programs and welding and machine programs. College of the Siskiyous in Weed will also receive funds to help pay for marketing, sales and health science.

Both colleges will have to split part of the grants with local high schools that they serve, and that applied for the money. The California Legislature established the grants in 2013 and renewed them last year. The money will be paid over a two-year period.
