Redding Volunteers To Clean Sacramento River Trail This Saturday

Volunteers will take to Redding’s Sacramento River Trail Saturday morning to clear brush, making the path more picturesque.

Organizer Randy Smith says the area targeted, between Carter Creek and Harlan Drive, is overgrown with blackberry and other invasive species making the river inaccessible.

"This area used to be cleaned by the river every year, but since Shasta Dam, it hasn't, and a lot of non-native Himiliyan blackberry has intruded,” he said. “You have a river trail, but you can't see the river."

The Shasta Fly Fishers will lead efforts from the water, while other volunteers clean and clear the trail itself.  Employees of the Forest Service and State Fish and Wildlife will help efforts. All equipment, including gloves and safety goggles, will be provided. Registration is available online at shastacreeks.com
