A report of armed men approaching Corning Union High School Monday morning was proved a hoax, but not before drawing a heavy police response and causing a two-hour lockdown.

Students and teachers were ordered to shelter in place after police received a report of two men, armed with shotguns or rifles, approaching the school. The report was received at 8:50 a.m.

Authorities from multiple agencies surrounded the building and began a thorough search. No armed men were located.

The lockdown was lifted around 11 a.m. Corning police reported the arrest of a 14-year-old boy for falsely reporting an emergency and delaying an investigation.
