Redding Designates April As Child Abuse Prevention Month

Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Council

The Redding City Council has designated April as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. Rachelle Modena, executive director of the Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council (CAPCC), says child abuse can be directly attributed to drug and alcohol abuse. In 2015, there were 467 cases of abuse in Shasta County, and about 50 percent of those cases ended with a child in the foster care system.

She says they’ve been busy.

"Over the last year we've provided 2,520 home visits and served over 557 families," she said.

Shasta CAPCC will have an open house Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its facility on Bechelli Lane.
