FBI Links Two North State Bank Robberies

FBI investigators believe that two bank robberies that occurred Monday four hours and hundreds of miles apart, were carried out by the same suspect.

The suspect was also linked to six other bank hold-ups over the last two and a half years. The Plumas County Sheriff’s office released a photo of a man matching the suspect’s description entering the Safeway supermarket in Quincy Tuesday.

The Umpqua Bank branch in Weaverville was robbed by a man brandishing a handgun at about 1 p.m. Monday. The Tri Counties Bank branch in Durham was robbed about four hours later. According to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect may have fled in a light blue BMW driven by a second man.

The FBI described the robber as a white man in his 20s, between 5'10" and six feet tall, weighing about 160 pounds.

He’s suspected of striking two banks in Napa, and one each in Glen Ellen, Pioneer and Walnut Grove since October 2013.
