Woman, 20, Struck And Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver

A 24-year-old Chico man was arrested about an hour and a half after a fatal hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning.

According to witnesses, the man’s vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk, striking a 20-year-old woman who was walking with friends. The woman died at the scene despite efforts of paramedics. The collision occurred near the intersection of West Sacramento and Nord Avenues at 1:30 a.m. The vehicle, described as a silver Acura sedan, fled the scene.

About a half hour later, a man identified as 24-year-old Bryan Dawson called police and reported being in a vehicle accident. According to police, damage to Dawson’s vehicle and other evidence linked him and the vehicle to the collision. Police said Dawson also failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, felony DUI and felony hit and run.

According to officials at CSU, Chico, the victim was not a student. It is unclear if Dawson has any connection with the university.
