Funds for the homeless, economic development and long-range needs are among the issues going before the Butte County Board of Supervisors in Oroville Tuesday morning.

In an effort to tap into millions in state grant funding, the board will consider declaring a so-called shelter crisis. The declaration is among the steps needed to qualify for the funding. Declaring a crisis waives certain aspects of the building code and other regulations, allowing people to take up residence in spaces that would otherwise be considered substandard.

According to Butte County officials, nearly $5 million in one-time state money could be made available in emergency funding for the homeless.

Butte County officials will also hear a report on regional economic development efforts and consider an updated 10-year plan for infrastructure.

The meeting gets underway this morning at 9 a.m.

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors is not meeting.
