An event looking into honoring the traditions, wisdom and philosophies of local Native American women and their communities is happening Friday afternoon on Chico State’s campus.
The third annual event, Women of Wisdom will be an evening of storytelling, learning and Native American appetizers.
Sara Cooper, the chair of the Department of Multicultural and Gender Studies at the university, said the event is important to everyone involved.
“The University is working very hard to rebuild some good relationships with our local tribes and this is an event that is important to us and to them,” Cooper said.
The main attraction is storyteller Liz Lara O’Rourke.
“She is one of the most dynamic, funny and really very charming storytellers from any of the communities in the North State. She is Yurok, Hupa and Chilula,” Cooper said.
The event takes place at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 1 in the Bell Memorial Union on Chico State’s campus. Doors will open at 4 p.m. with small plate appetizers served at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
