Police Identify Man Killed In Chico Shooting; Two Face Charges

Chico police on Thursday released the name of the man who was fatally shot earlier this week.

Police said he was 24-year-old Kevin Murillo.

Police say they responded Tuesday evening to a reported hit-and-run at West Third and Walnut streets.

They found Murillo seated in a vehicle, suffering from gunshot injuries. He died on the scene.

An officer minutes later stopped a vehicle at the intersection of West Sacramento and Nord Avenues, police say. Two suspects were detained.

The Butte County District Attorney’s Office on Friday charged two Chico men, Diontanae Tillman, 21, and Max Escobar, 20, in connection with Murillo’s death.

According a criminal complaint reviewed by NSPR, Tillman is charged with murder and second-degree robbery. He also faces allegations he personally and intentionally discharged a handgun.

Escobar faces a single felony count of accessory to robbery after the fact, according to the complaint.

The two suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in Butte County Superior Court Friday afternoon. It was unclear whether they have retained attorneys.

Tillman and Escobar remained in custody at Butte County Jail.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting and alleged robbery remained unclear. Police say their investigation is ongoing.
