A political action committee affiliated with a major water utility is temporarily halting its campaign contributions in the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol last week.

The California Water Service says its employees’ political action committee is now pressing pause on political contributions.

The California Water Service Group Political Action Committee in 2019 contributed more than $5,000 to North State Rep. Doug LaMalfa’s bid for re-election, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

After a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol, leaving multiple people dead – including a police officer – LaMalfa went on to support a failed attempt to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College wins in Arizona and Pennsylvania.

A spokesperson for California Water Service, Yvonne Kingman, told NSPR any future political contributions will take into account the certification objections by members of Congress.

Kingman added the employee PAC will not be making any contributions to candidates in the near future as it evaluates its giving principles.
