Siskiyou County reported six new COVID-19 deaths over the last week, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths there to 62.
County health officials say cases are starting to decline following a surge over the summer, but there’s still cause for concern.
Public Health Director Shelly Davis told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that about 19,100 people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which is only about 43 percent of Siskiyou County’s total population.
“We definitely are seeing a very slow increase of vaccination efforts,” she said. “So people are still kind of on the line on whether they want it done.”
Davis said history holds the answers on how to move on from the pandemic.
“What eliminated those diseases that happened previous to us was vaccinations,” she said.
A vaccination clinic is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 in Fort Jones at the town hall. Another clinic is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Yreka community center.
