It's been about a year since the Dixie Fire devastated Plumas County's Indian Valley. Now, some fire survivors there are working on supporting the next fire survivor community.

Report: McKinney Fire started under power line; cause remains under investigation
The McKinney Fire, which has now burned more than 60,000 acres in Siskiyou County, was 60% contained as of Tuesday. The fire ignited under a power line that had an outage the night before.

Since its opening, Chico’s Pallet shelter has served 175 people
The city of Chico’s Pallet shelter site for the homeless has served 175 people since its opening, according to the site’s operator, the Jesus Center. Representatives told the Butte County Board of Supervisors Tuesday that 61% of those served reported having experienced chronic homelessness.

Hate crimes are on the rise nationwide
Hate crimes are up for the fourth year in a row across the United States, according to new data from Cal State San Bernardino. The study looked at crime data from the past two and half years and found that across 18 states and Washington, D.C., hate crimes shot up more than 20% in 2021 compared to the year before.
