Siren Tests Along Pit River Tuesday

Don’t be alarmed, you’re not about to get washed away.

Four flash flood sirens along the Pit River, part of Pacific Gas & Electric Co.,  hydropower infrastructure will be briefly tested during business hours Tuesday.

The sirens, aimed at warning people fishing, boating or otherwise enjoying the river of sudden releases. PG&E will test warning sirens between the Lake Britton Dam and the Pit 3 Powerhouse. Additionally, a siren at the Pit 7 Afterbay will also be tested.

The sirens will sound for 30 seconds or less. In an emergency, the sirens are supposed to continue their blasts until water levels return to normal.
