Squatter Camps Booted From Problem Property In Redding

Redding police say they’ve broken down a years old tent city on a vacant parcel on the north side of town, evicted troublemakers and are billing the owners for failing to deal with it themselves.

The city imposed a $50 a day fine against Fresno-based Thomason Development Company, which owns the land, months ago. The city maintains that the company repeatedly ignored requests and warnings and never took action. The fines reached $11,350 on Monday.

According to Redding police, the firm didn’t hire a clean-up team until several weeks ago. An inspection yesterday found the area cleared of illegal camps and large amounts of trash.
