This is NSPR’s weekday show about the local and regional effects of COVID-19 in the North State. Listen each weekday at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. NSPR will continue this special coverage as long as our community needs it. Our mission with this show is to provide accurate news and information about COVID-19 for the North State.
Some 4.6 million Californians have filed unemployment claims since the coronavirus pandemic began in March.
The number of claims has overwhelmed the state with a growing backlog and longer wait times for help. Unemployment websites have repeatedly crashed and are ill-equipped for the overload.
And for millions of residents laid off amid the crisis, financial support cannot come soon enough.
Today we’ll hear the latest regional and state news and then we’re focusing on how to file for unemployment, getting as many questions as we can answered from employment expert Jennifer Shaw of Shaw Law Group who was interviewed Tuesday by CapRadio's host of Insight, Beth Ruyak.
Shaw was also interviewed by CapRadio reporter Chris Nichols Tuesday on Facebook Live. You can watch their conversation here:
