Best of Nancy's Bookshelf: Chico author & singer Dena Moes travels to India and Nepal

Chico songwriter, storyteller, and essayist Dena Moes is a Yale-educated nurse-midwife with a BA in literature and an MS in nursing. Her memoir, “The Buddha Sat Right Here: A Family Odyssey Through India and Nepal,” is a meditation on modern family life and a spiritual quest, that recounts a journey with her husband and two daughters in 2014 that led them to the Dalai Lama and the tree where the Buddha sat.

From her site: Dena Moes is a Hollywood-born, Yale-educated midwife with a BA in literature and an MS in Nursing. Dena and her husband Adam have raised their daughters in Chico California, where Dena was a homebirth midwife for a dozen years. Dena is the author of The Buddha Sat Right Here: A Family Odyssey Through India and Nepal, (April 2, 2019) a memoir of adventure, motherhood, and love, woven into a spiritual journey. This book recently won the Gold Medal in Travel Literature in the 2019 Independent Publishers Awards. As a nurse-midwife Dena has provided compassionate healthcare to women, mothers, and babies for twenty years.
