On Nov. 8 the fast-moving Camp wildfire surged through Butte County, destroying much of the town of Paradise and forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate. It is now the deadliest and most destructive fire in California history. 

We're assembling information on evacuations, shelters and resources to follow the fire here. The official county website for Camp Fire recovery information is ButteCountyRecovers.org.

  • Latest Update For Acres Burned And Containment: The fire has burned 153,336 acres and is 100 percent contained
  • Evacuations: See below.
  • Damage To Homes And Structures: Cal Fire has said that at least 13,972 homes have been destroyed.
  • Deaths: The Butte County Sheriff's Office has confirmed at least 86 deaths.
  • Missing: The current Butte County Sheriff's Office list of those unaccounted for has 3 names. The sheriff says the list will continue to fluctuate as more people are reported missing and found safe. The latest list, released Dec. 7, is here.

The Cal Fire information hotline is 530-538-7826. An Emergency Volunteer Center is open at Caring Choices (1398 Ridgewood in Chico). People interested in volunteering can go there or call 530-899-3873.

People looking for loved ones are encouraged to checksafeandwell.org, and check with family and friends.

The Butte County Sheriff's Department has opened a Call Center for locating missing persons, staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following numbers:

Hope Center in Oroville (1950 Kitrick Ave Ste. A) taking donations 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. Needs: warm clothes, shoes, socks, coats (primarily for elderly residents).
