Also, many survivors of the 2018 Camp Fire have been watching the news of wildfires in Maui with a sense of disbelief, and Chico State says for $20 you can pick as many peaches as you want Wednesday at the University Farm.

First West Nile case in Shasta County | Oroville rebrand | Provider abortion training bill
Shasta County announced its first case of West Nile Virus this year; there are now at least 55 confirmed cases of the virus in California so far. Also, Oroville’s recent rebranding effort isn’t going as well as council members had planned, and more than a year after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the federal right to an abortion, state lawmakers are working to expand reproductive access in California.

Evictions could hurt health of fire survivors | PSPS likely in parts of the North State today | New emergency alert system in Plumas County
At the end of the year, it could be illegal for survivors of the Bear Fire or North Complex, to live in RVs if they aren’t actively rebuilding. Experts say the stress of possible evictions could hurt survivors’ health. Also, PG&E could be shutting off power to more than 4,000 customers in the northern Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothills due to critical fire weather conditions, and Plumas County has replaced its CodeRED emergency alert system with a new one called Genasys Emergency Management (GEM).

North State earthquakes cause for concern? | Housing protests planned at Chico City Council meeting | Controlled burn in Shasta County
There’s been a spate of magnitude 5 earthquakes in the North State in the last few months. We asked an expert what these recent quakes mean and if the region is becoming more seismically active. Also, protests over Chico’s divisive Valley’s Edge plan are expected outside the Chico City Council chambers today as council members discuss several housing matters, and a controlled burn is scheduled in Shasta County tomorrow between the communities of Shingletown and Whitmore.

The Chico City Council this week unanimously approved the newest plan to advance the city’s housing and living conditions over the next several years. Also, the city of Redding has stepped in as administrator of the NorCal Continuum of Care after Shasta County officials announced they would be terminating their responsibilities to the organization, and a celebration and mural dedication will take place in Chico tomorrow in honor of Deaf Awareness Month.

Four new gray wolf packs in California | Cal OES disaster summit in Chico | Flu vaccine clinics start to roll out
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has found four new gray wolf packs in California in addition to three existing packs in Lassen, Plumas and Siskiyou counties. Also, a disaster summit will be held by Cal OES this Friday in Chico to increase community understanding of emergency response systems, and local public health departments are starting to schedule flu vaccine clinics as flu season nears.

Chico State students oppose CSU tuition increase | PG&E may hike rates up to 26% next year | Glenn County Sheriff warns residents of phone scam
Many Chico State students say they oppose the decision by the California State University Board of Trustees to raise tuition rates over the next five years. Also, a PG&E price hike as high as 26% has been proposed to the California Public Utilities Commission, and if you live in Glenn County and get a call from ‘Sergeant Harris’ asking you to send money to them, you’re being scammed.
