Jennifer Jewell is the creator and host of the national award-winning, weekly public radio program, and podcast, Cultivating Place: Conversations on Natural History & the Human Impulse to Garden.

 

In her new book The Earth in Her Hands 75 Extraordinary Women Working in the World of Plants, she introduces an array of inspiring women who inspire in wide-reaching fields. From botany and floral design to landscape architecture and farming, these influencers are creating change from the ground up.

Profiled women include flower farmer Erin Benzakein; co-director of Soul Fire Farm Leah Penniman; plantswoman Flora Grubb; edible and cultural landscape designer Leslie Bennett; Caribbean-American writer and gardener Jamaica Kincaid; soil scientist Elaine Ingham; landscape designer Ariella Chezar; floral designer Amy Merrick, and many more.

Nancy Wiegman has a master's degree in French linguistics from Indiana University and taught yoga and foreign languages at CSU Fresno and the College of Charleston before moving to Chico in 1990.
Matt Fidler is a producer and sound designer with over 15 years’ experience producing nationally distributed public radio programs. He has worked for shows such as Freakonomics Radio, Selected Shorts, Studio 360, The New Yorker Radio Hour and The Takeaway. In 2017, Matt launched the language podcast Very Bad Words, hitting the #28 spot in the iTunes podcast charts.
