Interview: Democratic House candidate Max Steiner challenges incumbent Doug LaMalfa
Democratic House candidate Max Steiner is facing off against Republican Congressman Doug LaMalfa on the November ballot. LaMalfa has represented California’s 1st Congressional District since 2013. Steiner recently spoke with NSPR’s Andre Byik about reproductive rights, forest management in the North State and California’s ongoing drought. Listen to the interview.

A year after the Dixie Fire, forests in Lassen Volcanic National Park are returning
The Dixie Fire burned through more than 73,000 acres of Lassen Volcanic National Park between August and October last year. Park Superintendent Jim Richardson said a year later, much of the forest is coming back.

Chico celebrates Parade of Lights for the first time since the pandemic
Thousands turned out for the 31st annual Parade of Lights celebration in Chico Saturday evening. The theme this year was “Unity in Community.” It was the first time the parade had been celebrated since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

California voters expected to approve Proposition 1
Proposition 1 would guarantee the right to abortion and contraception by amending California’s constitution. The Associated Press reports the measure is expected to pass in the heavily Democratic state, where supporters “hope a solid win will inspire other states also to enshrine the right in their constitutions.”
