Several North State schools were among the 193 middle and 180 high schools named Gold Ribbon Schools this year by the state Department of Education. The designation temporarily replaces the California Distinguished Schools program.
The schools were praised for achieving academic success with creative teaching, classroom innovation and embracing rigorous academic standards by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.
Schools in the region receiving the award include: Bear River School in Wheatland, Gray Avenue Middle in Yuba City, Sycamore Middle in Gridley, Inspire School of Arts and Sciences in Chico, Red Bluff High and Vista Preparatory Academy in Red Bluff, Evergreen Middle in Cottonwood and University Preparatory in Redding.
