Fires: August 4

More than 10,000 firefighters are currently battling 22 wildfires throughout California.

In the North State:

·        Multiple fires are burning in Trinity County. They include the now 7,000-acre River Complex near the communities of Daily Ranch, Hoboken and Denny, as well as two complexes – the Fork Complex and the South Complex – which now total 19,000 acres and have prompted widespread mandatory evacuations in the Hayfork and Hyampom areas. These include homes at Trinity Pines and near Barker Creek Road, Mill Gulch from Highway 3 to Hayfork, and the areas of Kingsbury Gulch Road and Morgan Hill Road. We also have evacuations in the areas of Skunk Ranch, Manzanita Ranch, Kerlin Creek Road, Corral Bottom and Underwood Mountain Road.

Highway 3 is closed from the Hayfork Fairgrounds south to Highway 36, and 36 is closed to westbound traffic at Wildwood Road/

·        The Rocky Fire burning in Lake, Yolo and Colusa counties is now more than 100 square mile in size. Lots of evacuation orders and advisories are in place. Highway 20 is closed between highways 16 and 53. Highway 16 is closed from 20 to the Yolo county line. If you’re traveling in the area, be sure to check road conditions first. The fire’s burned down 50 buildings so far, about half of them homes. This fire is 12 percent contained.

·        A fire that broke out Monday night in Yuba County is now fully contained. The Francis Fire, south of the community of Dobbins, has scorched 75 acres.

·       A 50-acre grass fire briefly threatened West Valley High School as well as several homes in the area yesterday, but was quickly contained. Its cause is under investigation.

·        In Lassen County, 17 miles northeast of the community of Ravendale, the Dodge Fire has burned 2,000 acres of sagebrush, juniper and grass. It was first reported Monday afternoon and is currently 5 percent contained.  

·        In Modoc County the Frog Fire is now more than 4,700 acres in size and 50 percent contained. It was first reported Monday afternoon. Road closures are in place around the area. Lava and Howards Gulch campgrounds are closed.
